A Yoruba adage says: “Ẹni bá dúpẹ́ oré ọjọ́ àná, á rí mí gba lọ́la” meaning, the one who is grateful for yesterday’s blessings will receive more tomorrow.

One truth we all recognize is that human wants are endless. No matter how much we have, we still desire more. This is why, in our prayers, we often find ourselves constantly asking“Lord, give me this, give me that.” And when those prayers are answered, many of us simply say, “Thank You, Jesus,” and move on.

Yet, even among ourselves as humans, when someone isn’t truly appreciative, we call them ungrateful. So how much more God? It makes one reflect on how He feels when our gratitude is so brief and sometimes shallow. Even when we claim to be thanking Him, we often slip in another request or quietly expect something in return.

Try this: dedicate your prayers solely to thanksgiving for a period 7 days, 21 days, or even a month. No requests, no expectations, just pure gratitude. You may discover how difficult it is and how easily our human nature leans toward self-interest.

Today, take time to genuinely thank God for what He has done, and even for what you may not yet see. If nothing else, thank Him for the gift of life.

Let your gratitude be sincere, and may He forgive us for the times we’ve been ungrateful.

“Acts 20:22-24 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”

I was reading Acts 20 and got to verses 22–24

where Paul said the Holy Spirit has warned him that imprisonment awaits him. Yet he declared that he does not count his life as valuable to himself, as long as he can finish the race and complete the mission the Lord Jesus gave him.

As I meditated on this, I asked, “Lord, what happened to Paul that made him so fearless? ” “ Lord what did you do to Paul??” Holy spirit replied me and said “ He(Paul) saw Me(Jesus ). When you truly encounter Him, when you really see Him, you become willing to go to any length for Him. Nothing else matters the same way anymore.

It reminded me of the blind man Jesus healed who said, “Though I was blind, now I see.” Once you’ve seen Him you don't care if people call you mad or too religious, doubt fades, fear loses its grip, and your life is no longer your own.

Wherever you are, say it boldy;

While reading the Bible yesterday, the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to something powerful in Genesis 4. Cain and Abel both offered sacrifices to God, yet Abel’s was accepted and Cain’s was not. In Genesis 4:7, God asked Cain, “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?”

That question was an invitation—an opportunity for Cain to reflect, adjust, and have his offering accepted. But instead of examining his actions, Cain allowed bitterness and jealousy to take root when he saw that what worked for his brother was not working for him. That bitterness eventually led to his destruction.

Just like Cain, many of us react the same way today. Rather than asking God to show us what needs to change, we envy those for whom things seem to be working. God is calling us to examine our lives, check our hearts, and ask what we may be doing wrong. Instead of envying others, we should learn from them and ask what they are doing right.

May God help us to walk in humility, correction, and obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen. 🙏🤍

Something I have come to realize is that no matter the height one attains in their walk with God, the flesh will always try to show up. You must be intentional about putting it under subjection. Scripture says:

“For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law but under grace.” (Romans 6:14)

Let no one deceive you. Since the fall of man, the flesh has constantly sought to take dominion over humanity

No wonder the Apostle Paul cried out:

“Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?” (Romans 7:24). But thanks be to God for Jesus Christ, who saved us by His grace.

This explains Paul’s confession:

“For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.” (Romans 7:19)

To keep the flesh under subjection, you must walk in the Spirit. As it is written:

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” (Romans 8:11)

Therefore, choose to live according to the Spirit:

“For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” (Romans 8:13)

Practical Measures to Keep the Flesh Under Subjection

1. Pray daily. Pray in the Spirit. Pray without ceasing. In short—pray!

2. Read, study, and meditate on the Word of God. Maintain a balanced spiritual diet: as you pray, also feed on God’s Word daily.

3. Listen to Spirit-filled songs. Be mindful of what you listen to. Songs carry altars, and the source of a song truly matters. You cannot consistently listen to music inspired by the flesh and expect to subdue the flesh. A pastor once instructed his members to stop listening to certain songs for one month, and many later testified to deliverance from masturbation and pornography. Guard your ears carefully.

4. Listen to godly sermons that build your faith and stir your spirit.

5. Read good, edifying books that strengthen your walk with God.

6. Be careful with what you watch. What enters through the eyes affects the heart.

7. Flee from every appearance of evil.
